swine flu

Is just the scariest thing ever. I can't help but constantly read about it in the news. I'm a little bit obsessive compulsive and worry just a little too much. But, I am trying to not let myself get ridiculous about it.

So, in between reading about electronic synthesizers and amplifiers, I found this loooooovely packaging for Helvetica the film.

I still haven't seen it. I am guilty.

My job at the University Technology Services Office is going well. I currently have two projects: redesigning the Student Affairs logo and designing a landing page for the SAL website.
I've been playing around with a word bubble, but haven't really landed on anything solid. It doesn't help that the office has a very limited and unimpressive font library.

I'm planning to learn how to do some 3D modeling this summer. Hopefully, I can play around with some geometric shapes and patterned textures to create some nice compositions.

I'm also thinking of buying a new desktop computer. It might just have to run Windows. I can't help missing being able to play games on my computer. My lil Mac laptop just can't do it! Victor's helped me picked out all the parts I need and I've picked a great case. :) Demi-god is calling my name.

swiss swiss swees

Every blog I read has covered Network Osaka's new portfolio. They're modernizing Swiss design and bringing it back (ow owww).

Check it out! Network Osaka

JQUERY 1.3.2!!!

arrrrhhhh!!!!! learn it. :D

web development office

I start work tomorrow at 11am at the Michigan Union's web development office. This is going to be a great learning opportunity. I will be learning server side coding on top of adding on to my client side coding knowledge. I'm hoping to get into Ruby on Rails this summer (as my own personal project).

I've been trying to really push CSS's abilities and javascript's. I've noticed a pattern of three columns of text on a lot of CSS websites. :) Good, I like columns.

I'm hitting a speed bump with my website. I just really dislike resizing all of my work to a consistent size. Almost done though. Almost!

I've been thinking about places I want to move after school. San Francisco, seems amazing.

www

Website is 50% complete. It's really turning out quite nicely. Every now and then I'm hitting weird spots where it will just do odd things on its own.

Weather is about to thunderstorm. :( I really don't like the rain. The sky's all dark, but its still sunny. Its just not right! Especially since I was trying to get home today.

Weekends are great.

My www's. :p

ALSO!

JUST CAME IN THE MAIL FOR ME :D

Fonts I'm head over heels for right now:

Now only if I could afford them. :/

late night

Or maybe its early in the night...
Anyways, If I had to put a percentage on how far along I am with my website I would say... 30%? I've re-aligned the text on the front page which got rid of the giant text block. I'm currently in the process of editing my portfolio pieces and reading through piles of codes to figure out some of this javascript.

I watched the new Futurama movie tonight. Eh. Ehhh. Entire movies that are parodies of other movies don't impress me very much. But, I still have love for Futurama so I'll continue to be a fan. :)

I want to subscribe to Idea Mag, but I can't. Damn you Japanese and your awesome design magazines!!!

At least I can buy them from online vendors or check them out at the school's library. :/

I have at least ordered my two Emil Ruder books. I'm so excited. They should be arriving in 5-9 days (says Amazon's shipping).

Me being a big fan of intricate line work... http://www.jasonthielke.com/ Just really, some gorgeous contours and amazing textures.

Last thing before I stop blogging for the night, I finished my flash mixer. I'm very happy with it. The loops Victor made are really fantastic. Hopefully, my presentation will go smoothly tomorrow (crosses fingers).

web update

Here is my very rough draft of my new portfolio. I've been working on it for the past two hours. :p It's the bare bones, but I think I'm heading in a good direction!

on your mark, get set, portfolio!

I've started re-designing my online portfolio. I'm very excited. :) I'm trying new things... I hope I don't drive myself crazy.

flash mixer

Currently, I am working on creating a mixer in flash for a music project. I'm collaborating with Victor on this project. He is composing the sound loops and I am coding and designing the mixer. I'm very new to flash and its becoming more of a challenge than I had originally thought it would be. I've seemed to run into problems with buttons becoming unbuttonized (for lack of a better term) and just other small coding errors; its very frustrating. I hope that by staring at it for a long time I can fix these issues.

But anyways, here is a screen shot of the layout.

emil ruder

Every artist struggles the twofold determination to reflect his personality and his time.

I've fallen in love with the typography and philosophy of Emil Ruder. Books are already ordered. :)

I don't know how I feel about my math. I may do some recalculating later.

Also, this melts my heart:

rebranding myself?

I've really been pushing myself to reinvent myself, my style, and my abilities as a graphic designer. Tonight, I finished redesigning and editing my resume and I've started up this blog!

Hopefully this blog will help me organize my thoughts because god knows the poor stickies on my desktop just aren't cutting it. So, I've chose this template for now. This blog will be revamped soon. (just another thing I can add to my long list of to do's)

So, ta da step one: blog up!
